Moving up a few shades of darkness and ABV and you'll find Sienna, a Vienna lager with the colour of maple syrup. The balance is superb with Vienna malt on the one hand and Perle, Hersbrucker and Mittelfruh hops on the other teaming up for one of my favourite examples of the style Iâ??ve enjoyed this year.

Dr Gabriela, actually â?? introduces herself as â??head of sensory at Fermentisâ??. And since Fermentis is a company that makes yeast for beer, then the sensory department is all about tasting beer, right? Wellâ?¦ yes. But thereâ??s a little more to it than that.

We run and we run, but we donâ??t seem to be getting any further ahead; instead, weâ??re caught in that same loop where the direction we should be heading always remains unclear. Inner North Brewingâ??s Hamster Wheel Didactics might be as hazy as our journey through life, but rather than being stuck in a rut, itâ??s a tribute to lessons learned.

Read More...Margaret River Beer Co can't seem to stop the limited release train now their new brewing facility is running full tilt. They're coming so fast, in fact, that they've released not one but two at once in collaboration with Mane Liquor, Grain Cru and Liquor Barons Marmion. The duo, released under the Criss Cross moniker, comes loaded with New Zealand hops: Outbound is a DDH NZ IPA; Inbound an NZ IPL.

Read More...There's a very nimble, El Dorado and Centennial-driven crusher in the glass, one with far more drinkability than its 6 percent-plus ABV has any right to be offering. Indeed, the team suggest "big hop notes, balanced approach and crisp finish", and there's little dispute from my end on those.

That first Thrill Seeker was all about the tropicals and stonefruit of Nectaron, Nelson Sauvin and Waimea. It seems Slipstream couldnâ??t stay away, so theyâ??ve made another version of Thrill Seeker, this time doubling down on citrus by using Moutere and Motueka hops, with an extra boost from Motueka Hop Kief* to amp up the zestiness even further and make drinking this IPA an extreme sport.**
Read More...Can't tell your Hop Kief from your Hopzoil? Are words like Phantasm or Cryo on your beer can causing confusion? If so, don't worry - you're not alone. Hops used to be simple. Not too long ago, this humble plant and its precious yellow lupulin predominantly came in three forms: the hoppy holy trinity of whole hop cones, dried cones and pellets. This situation did start to change in the 60s and 70s in the form of commodity bittering extracts for industrial brewers, but, while specific hop varietals increased towards the end of the 20 century, there was little change when it came to new hop products.

In 2023, there was Coupla Days, and for 2024, it returns as Rubber Arm. The beer was inspired by some of his favourites from Germany, so it keeps things largely traditional, although it features American hop Centennial alongside Spalt, which is considered one of the world's oldest varieties.
Read More...It seems the brewers at Black Hops can't get enough of Superdelic hops; they've been playing around with them plenty recently with a West Coast IPA in late 2023, a hazy in early '24, then a dry-hopped sour for BH HQ's eighth birthday celebrations.
Read More...There I was, welcoming mates over for some birthday / watching-the-Pies'-season-finally-draw-its-last-wheezy-breath drinks, not really paying attention as the first splashes of Dank AF hit the glass in front of me. I swear that no more than 50ml had touched down and instantly I had to break off from conversation. No beer, other than one of Wolf of the Willows' early terpene releases, had come my way that so obviously stank of freshly-plucked bud. Yet there was no mention of the use of cannabis-derived terpenes on the cans so I figured maybe they'd discovered some magical, hitherto unknown combination of yeast and hops that had unlocked such a thing. Or that my palate was being weird.

The First Boss is a juicy IPA made with Cascade, El Dorado, Idaho 7, Mosaic, and Citra, and its 7.0 percent ABV suggests that while things might just be getting started, this isn't some easy foe to overcome.

Even the guava sour's tinny design helps you imagine Melbourne's parks aren't full of mud, while the heavy use of fruit certainly shocks you into another season.
